TESTIMONIALS

Charnita McIntosh

In my first year of teaching, Stephanie Dean was my team lead and teacher mentor. I am so grateful to have started my teaching career with her to help lead, guide, motivate, and encourage me. Stephanie pushed me to become a better teacher and teammate. She assisted me with my lessons and classroom management. She helped give me a foundation in my career and I cannot thank her enough for everything that she has done!

Mrs. Dean was my first assistant principal to work under and she has set the expectations high for all the others to come. For my first two years of teaching, she has shown me so much grace, love, and generosity. First, she consistently checked in on me, making sure I had enough resources and materials to teach my students effectively. She gave constructive feedback with questions and comments that would give me a new perspective on my classroom management, best practices, and overall teaching. Anytime I asked for help in the classroom or an idea on how to effectively reach all my students, she always took the time to help me plan and prepare. In classroom management, she gave numerous ways and ideas on how to handle the classroom overall, challenging students, and rewarding those that needed it. She brought so many wonderful ideas to our school overall to help increase positive behavior like the weekly school store to reward those with excellent behavior the week before, lunch with a teacher outside of the cafeteria with video games and board games to help build relationships between students and teachers, and the relationship wall where teachers were encouraged to take pictures with students to have it shared to the school. Mrs. Dean made a huge impact in our school by constantly striving to bring more light to positive behaviors than negative behaviors. Within my classroom, she taught me how to effectively have science stations by helping me plan lessons and distribute student jobs that best fit the needs of my students. When asked, Mrs. Dean would always be willing to come into the classroom and model what her expectations were of her teachers in management and in teaching content. Mrs. Dean’s passion for every student to be successful in learning and for every teacher to be successful in their career was evident everyday in her role as administrator. She made sure every student felt seen and valued and her teachers felt appreciated.

2020-2021 was my first year of teaching, and I had a tall order. My content was History and I was asked to teach 6th grade math and I was not very confident about it. Stephanie Dean provided a safe haven for me to vent, ask questions, or any other needs I may have had. She was patient and and encouraging. I had so many anxieties and insecurities about my ability to teach math and even my own understanding. She assured me that I could make a difference, and that I was on the right track. The most important things she taught me was how to manage my classroom and how to reach the students in the best way. I am a better educator because of Stephanie Dean and her guidance, love and patience. She saw something in me that I never knew was there and that made all the difference for me then and now as I enter my second year in education.
